Drongo feeding behavior

Drongo feeding behavior Lesser Racquet-tailed Drongo (Dicrurus remifer) [Lesser Racquet-tailed Drongo (Dicrurus remifer)]

I have a the opportunity to observe this Dongo in action along the Genting Road, near the mosque at Fraser's Hill last Sunday, during the International Bird race.

These insectivorous birds are found in usually tropical moist montana such as Fraser's Hill here.

I noticed two drongos hunt for insects. They catch the insects in mid-flight and return to the same perch to eat it. (same behavior as bee eater)

The photograph shows drongo in the act of swallowing.
They have short legs and sit very upright whilst perched, like a shrike.

"Si Kering" - Chinese Hamster

Chinese Hamster - we called it "Kering", because when we bought it, it was so tiny and thin.
(thin ~ dry = 'kering')

After we take care of it for more than two months, it is no longer thin, but the name remain the same.

This picture was taken when we allow it to roaming the backyard for exercise.

Fraser's Hill International Bird Race - 2008and finally the unknown bird (what is the bird ID?) - Edit (May 2010): Mountain Fulvetta. Rimba Murai Bukit

Edit: revisit this entry after one year, and today (20 June 2009) is another bird race held at Fraser's Hill.
Now I know this bird ID, Mountain Leaf Warbler (Phylloscopus trivirgatus)
Local name: Cekup Daun Gunung

This warbler is yellow in colour unlike that fulvetta.

Fraser's Hill International Bird Race - 2008We didn't wait for the closing ceremony, so tired - with non-stop walking from 7.30 till 11.30am.
We left the hill station at 12.00 am.

The other gap road is still closed, so all have to line-up to use the only road available with the time table, one-way traffic flow (going up - odd numbers, going down -even numbers).

THE END :-)
