Ripe Rambutan Fruits

Now it all ripe, and ready for harvest.
Actually I have only three rambutan tree, two yellow ("gading") and one red ("anak sekolah") variety.
The rambutan at my backyard flowers in march (here the pic).

Here the picture in Jun.

The fruit matures 15-18 weeks after flowering.

In Sri Lanka one of the USPs (Unique Selling Points) used by local rambutan sellers is to tell the buyers that they are Malaysian rambutans as that get the message that they are of good quality. It doesn't mean they are imported from malaysia but Malaysian types grown here.

I have got two 'Malaysian' Rambutan trees in my home garden.
The fruits taste really good. I live close to the Sri Lankan Rambutan mecca; named Malwana.

Anither USPs used is to say that the 'Rambutans are from Malwana'
That gives the message that they are the Malaysian types grown at Malwana.

Ha! Now I know the story.
I did a simple search,

"It is said that the Portuguese brought the first rambutan seeds to Sri Lanka from Malaysia".

My red variety is more juicer but less sweet.
The yellow one is sweeter, dry and crunchy -our favourite.
