Everyone is in Hari Raya mood, and I have no new bird picture to post, so this old pictures of children playing with sparkler during last raya holiday will bring back the nostalgia.

I traveled to Kuala Terengganu (a town at east cost of Penisular Malaysia) yesterday. A round trip of about 900km, visiting my late uncle's family. While resting at one of the mosque in Kemasik, I notice an eagle flew very low. I ran for a camera in a car, and before I could focus up the camera, it soared upward with a breeze.

Hill Myna (Gracula religiosa) - another LIFER at my backyard
What an exciting week - two LIFER in three day. Actually this "Tiung Emas" is not true lifer as I have seen it at cage somewhere - a popular cage bird for it nice song that can mimic human voice, like parrot. Anyway this is the first time I saw it in natural habitat.
I was waiting for Pond Heron (Ardeola sp) - another early migrant here, to perch at this dead teak tree, when suddenly a flock of five myna perched. I though all that Common Myna or Javan Myna that I see every day. Then I noted unusual yellow colour at the side of the head. I just fire a few shot in the thick morning fog and mist with the flash off. So here are a few poor shot for my record.
The different between the two species is in the head yellow patch of Hill Myna (left) and Common Myna (right).
The feather is also different with Jet Black for Hill Myna and dark grey for Common Myna.

Green-billed Malkoha (Phaenicophaeus tristis) - another new species at MyBackyard
New bird species is very hard to be found at my backyard now. That last one was Banded Woodpecker that appeared in early Jun this year. This afternoon I noticed something big moving in between the Moringa Oleifera tree leaves. I quickly took the bin, and here my LIFER. Lucky for me that it stayed there a few moment allowing for few record shots.

I had a chance to witness this Zebra Dove in the mating act, yesterday at 6.39PM.
It was just a fast grabbed shot. I forgot to add the +2 compensation for white back ground, so the image was underexposed. I tried to salvaged it with Adobe Photoshop, heavily croped. This is three frame out of five.

Gold-whiskered Barbet - My Favourite Bird at Favourite Perch
I have said in my previous posting, that there will be no birding during this fasting month.
If the bird came to you, how can you resist not to grab the camera and fire a few shots.
This is my favorite bird (apart from Iora), perched at the usual dead teak tree while I was waiting to break the fast.

Birds Photography on Merdeka Day
I did a bird photography alone at a hill along the 'Jalan Rumah Pegawai Daerah' - a road that lead to officer residence of Raub's District Officer. The parade and Merdeka celebration was at the field below it. So I did the birding while listening to the patriotic songs!.
There is a big fruiting tree just out side the Magistrate Court, so all this pictures were taken around that tree.
This my LIFER - a small Cuckoo- not sure of species.
I notice the yellow-eye ring is the characteristic.
? Plaintive Cuckoo (Cacomantis merulinus)(Female)
? Rusty-breasted Cuckoo (Cacomantis sepulcralis) - juvenile.
I will confirm the ID later
No birding for me during Ramadan (fasting month),
until next posting, enjoy this pictures!
