Fasa Reproduktif (Hari 56 – 90): Tempoh padi mula bunting dan mengeluarkan tangkai bunga.

Fasa Pematangan (Hari 91 – 125): Proses pengisian susu pada biji padi sehingga ia mengeras, bertukar warna kuning keemasan, dan sedia dituai.

East–West Strong Wind Brings a Flock of Intermediate Egrets to Town

On Monday, 6 October 2025, Raub experienced a spell of strong east–west winds that seemed to carry more than just cool air, it brought with it a surprise flock of Intermediate Egrets (Ardea intermedia)

The Intermediate Egret is a familiar wetland visitor, often seen around rivers, ponds, and flooded areas. But seeing a whole flock blown inland by the seasonal wind was a rare and delightful sight. The birds circled a few times before settling on an edge of a small pond at Taman Bandar Raub, likely resting and feeding after being displaced by the strong gusts.

The egrets looked elegant in flight, their white plumage glowing softly under the morning light. When they landed, I could see their black legs and black feet, and the way they stood quietly, scanning the water for small fish or insects. Unlike the smaller Little Egret, these birds had shorter necks and yellow bills, giving them a distinct, sturdy appearance.

Moments like this remind me how nature moves in rhythm with the wind. Even a strong monsoon gust can carry beauty into town — turning an ordinary day into a quiet encounter with the wild.

First time see this big bird in Raub.

The dagger mark (gape line) that extends behind the eye.

Non-breeding plumage black legs 

A small yellow bump or callous on the left leg.

It flew away when I approached. 

Wadding in shallow water. It has been dry and hot recently.

A bird lifts itself out off the water.

It landed at the concrete dam on the far side of the lake.

Compare the sizes. Greater on the left and little on the right.

Birding during COVID-19 Pandemic

Birding at my backyard is a solo activity , that don't involve large crowd gathering.

2013 Migrant Birds at My Backyard

Finally, migrant birds perched in my backyard. Not a lifer, but Brown Shrike and Little Egret

Little Egret is a resident migrant bird in Malaysia, but I don't see it here (Raub)  in other months except in the winter. Its habitat is the mangroves and freshwater wetlands

Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) - perched on a coconut pinnate and a banana leaf. Easily identified with dark-colored bills, black legs, and yellow feet.

Other than the two birds above, all the birds pictured below are common backyards.

Bangau Kerbau Terbang - Cattle Egret in flight

This flock of Egret flew past the Raub Golf Course, along the valley and Sempam River, sharp at 7.30am for the past few weeks. The show continued for about 20 minutes.
The 400mm lens handheld is ideal for this predictable flight path. The sun was supposed to be at my back, but not appear until 9am. Sigh!
