Ochraceous Bulbul

UPDATE: 21/3/2011 @12.17pm -  Rainfield61 and Thomas mention about the bird sound.
So, here I got it from Xeno-canto. (call from 2 birds). Maybe this bird mimics the punk music/song.

Large Niltava and use of Bird Sound

This was my LIFER and target bird for last Friday birding at Fraser's Hill.
My method of bird photography is very simple, walk slowly on a trail and watch for any bird that perch on the branches, but frequently the birds fly away when I stumble upon it.
I never used bird song to lure the bird into view, except this one. The bird was photographed with the help of MP3 song that I downloaded from Xeno-canto Asia.
Download the mp3 file into my iPod nano and attached it to a small portable speaker (Altec Lansing iM207 Orbit).

I heard the song of this Niltava at Maybank Lodge's front gate and played the iPod. The bird called back and suddenly landed on the electric cable. Perched there for a few second, just enough for me to shoot a few frames.
Than I saw the male perched on a dead ginger plant a few feet away.

The use of of bird sound is frowned upon and discourage. I don't think I distress this bird for about three minute playback and nine minutes of photography. This Niltava is not in endangered or rare, and December is not a breeding season.
There is a lot of discussion in the bird forum about the ethics of using bird sound playback in birding and photographic. In my opinion, limited use that do not repeatedly loop back the song for a long duration with non endangered bird is okay.
In Malaysia, I don't think this will threaten the common bird, but logging, forest clearing and bird poachers are the main culprit.

Rama-rama

Play with MACRO photography again this evening, and now butterflies are my target.

This are what I got from around my house...., not from butterfly park/farm.
Searching the internet (from Singapore Butterflies Check List web site), I got the species name of this lovely blue butterfly - Junonia orithya wallacei This blue is the male.

The butterfly song by Ella

Rama-rama - Ella

---------------------
Seumpama rama-rama
Terbang bebas di udara tanpa ada halangan
Aman damai suka-suka
Riang ria tanpa ada rasa duka sengketa

Rama-rama

*
Ekspresi dirimu menawan hatiku
Ingin aku terbang bersamamu
Melihat kerenah melihat telatah
Manusia yang sering terlaga

**
Ekspidisi ini bagai tiada henti
Kan menjadi antologi diri
Terhentilah mimpi terhapuslah sepi
Sanubari yang lebih berani

***
Terminal yang pasti satu fitrah hati
Kerna yang sejati tiada kekal lagi
Terbanglah ke sini mencari abadi
Terbanglah ke mari mencari hakiki

Seumpama rama-rama
Melewati panorama yang penuh warna warni
Taman bunga taman damai
Dengan aksi lincah berputik hidup yang harungi

Rama-rama

(ulang *, ** & *** 2x)

This is definitely not butterfly, but an insects doing thing!... :-)

Lidah tergigit ! (Tongue bite)

Tongue bite can be due to various reasons;
1) Accidental - during epilepsy, MVA (motor vehicle accidents)
2) Self-inflicted bite - usually from mental deficient patients, here
3) Large tongue - Anything that enlarges the tongue will make it more difficult to avoid biting into the tongue. click here

But in malay, tongue bite - "lidah tergigit" can be an idiom, click here from Kamus Istimewa by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (entry no. 14)

"Suami isteri, kaum keluarga, sahabat handai, ada kalanya berselisih juga. (Peribahasa lain yang sama makna: a. Pinggan dengan mangkuk, salah sedikit hendak terantuk, b. Senduk dan periuk lagi berantuk, c. Senduk dengan belanga lagi berlaga)".

SEDANGKAN LIDAH LAGI TERGIGIT
www.filemkita.com/filem/t/tiga_abdul_01. html

Sedangkan lidah lagi tergigit
Apa pula suami isteri

Buang yang keruh ambil yang jernih
Baru teguh peribadi

Apa guna kita bertengkar
Suami isteri harus bersabar

Kasih sayang rukun dan damai
Hidup seperti dalam mahligai
Maaf hamba wahai dinda

Buang yang keruh ambil yang jernih
Baru teguh peribadi

Suami isteri mesti berpakat
Rumah tangga mendapat berkat

Apa guna selisih faham
Kalau ingin aman tenteram
Pohon ampun wahai kanda

Buang yang keruh ambil yang jernih
Baru teguh peribadi

Salam Terakhir

Sudirman Hj. Arshad died 15 years ago (22 February 1992). This Salam Terakhir is one of his last song, a very touching one. By posting this song, I hope it is not my salam terakhir or "Last Greeting" to this blog and world wide web. I still want to live!, but who knows, it all in Allah's hand, I may died today or tomorrow. This MAY BE really my last salaam,
- so please forgive me!. /wassalam/.
