Barbet Eating Banana at ISO 2500
The dark, overcast sky during rainy monsoon season. I have to push the ISO to 2500 to have a decent picture of this Gold-whiskered Barbet eating banana in my backyard.

Bird of Prey - Gold-whiskered Barbet
Tough Luck!.
3rd time unlucky with nestling at my backyard.
This was the last pictures taken on the morning of 28thMarch. The mother was trying to cover her baby, but you can see the baby head protruding there. By evening the two chicks were gone.
I suspect this was the real culprit. It perched on electric wire just above the" jambu" tree on the evening of 27th March. This barbet must have seen the chicks/ nest and waiting for the right moment to strike. I have not seen the actual attack, but from the past history (feasting on Tree Sparrow) - this is the prime suspect.

After the rain

Gold-whiskered Barbet Under the Rain
The heavy rain stopped, but light drizzled continue when this bird suddenly perched on a dead banana leaf about 20 feet from me.
I wish for a better smooth background (bokeh) than that green banana leaf. With the rain and overcast sky, what more you can ask for?.
ISO 400, f5.6, shutter 1/25, EV +1.7, No flash
If you look at this picture below, the yellow colour was overexposed - that yellow at the bird's cheek and part of the old banana leaf. The EV + 1 2/3 compensation was too much, but for the bird that perched for a few second, I had no time to view at the camera's histogram to correct the set-up.

Sub-adult Barbet

Why I called this specimen Sub-adult?.
I have seen so many of this barbet at my backyard, so somehow I know this is not an adult. ;)
Seriously, this bird colour or plumage is much duller that the one at my header up there.
(the above header picture was taken exactly a year ago. (Digitization Date/Time = 2008:09:03 18:24:00)

Bird Photography with Camera Phone
I hope you can see the green bird here. This bird did not move when I parked my car near the cherry tree. With only hand phone camera in my pocket, this is the best that I can get.

Gold-whiskered Barbet - My Favourite Bird at Favourite Perch
I have said in my previous posting, that there will be no birding during this fasting month. If the bird came to you, how can you resist not to grab the camera and fire a few shots.
This is my favorite bird (apart from Iora), perched at the usual dead teak tree while I was waiting to break the fast.

I and the Bird Edition #82

I submitted a link of a write up by Prof YC Wee of Adrian Lim a.k.a. wmw998 and my observation of Gold-whiskered Barbet feeding bahavior to Kathie of Sycamore Canyon for 82nd edition of IATB.It is interesting that she relate the observation to Kronos (Greek mitos) devouring one of his children.
