Green-billed Malkoha on bamboo tree

Green-billed malkoha (Phaenicophaeus tristis)
The Gray cuckoo with a remarkably long tail.
Note dark red facial skin, pale greenish-yellow bill, and dark green gloss on the wings and tail. Chestnut-bellied and Black-bellied Malkohas can be similar.
Note Green-billed’s thin white border around the facial skin, dark eyes, and overall paler head and breast.
Found in lowland and foothill forests and forest edges, as well as dense scrub and cultivated areas. Creeps through foliage like a squirrel. Gives various amphibian-like clucks and croaks.

Green-billed Malkoha in flight

I spotted a large, long-tailed bird foraging in a Rambutan tree beside my neighbor's house.
As I approach it to take a photo, it jumps and flies away.
I fired in high-speed continuous, approx. 7.0 shots/sec. Canon 5D Mark IV.
What photographers say is "Fire and pray".
These are three pictures that are sharp enough to be worth sharing.

Green-billed Malkoha

This large bird (50-6ocm) suddenly perched on the coconut tree in front of my house while I was looking for a fledgling Magpie Robin.  Very close about 3 meters from my car park. I have to back off to get a full-frame picture, and not cut off the bird's long tail.

Malkoha at Cenderai Tree

I was walking along a small jungle trail one Sunday morning when a bird flew into the bushes of Cenderai tree (Microcos tomentosa). I stopped and try to find it. It was hard to locate in that thick green-orange leaves. The bird stayed motionless with just the head pop-up and perfectly camouflage inside the tree.

Green-billed Malkoha (Phaenicophaeus tristis) - another new species at MyBackyard

Green-billed Malkoha (Phaenicophaeus tristis) at Moringa Oleifera tree at my backyard at Raub MalaysiaNew bird species is very hard to be found at my backyard now. That last one was Banded Woodpecker that appeared in early Jun this year. This afternoon I noticed something big moving in between the Moringa Oleifera tree leaves. I quickly took the bin, and here my LIFER. Lucky for me that it stayed there a few moment allowing for few record shots.
