Jangka Hayat Burung - Life Expectancy of Birds

Dead Myna
Yellow-vented Bulbul die bitten by car
2.Kill by neighbor's cat, here information cat killing kingfisher from Singapore's Bird Ecology Study Group
3.Fighting for mate or whatever reason. Gambar  saya  rakam pada tahun 2008
4.Hunger - Kelaparan kerana musnahnya alam sekitar punca makanan
5.Poacher - Diburu untuk peliharaan
6.Catapult slingshot  by boys - Dilastik budak-budah (zaman saya kecik2 dulu)
Berapa lama jangka hayat burung?

Hill Myna (Gracula religiosa) - another LIFER at my backyard

Hill Myna (Gracula religiosa) at My backyard in Raub Malaysia What an exciting week - two LIFER in three day. Actually this "Tiung Emas" is not true lifer as I have seen it at cage somewhere - a popular cage bird for it nice song that can mimic human voice, like parrot. Anyway this is the first time I saw it in natural habitat.

I was waiting for Pond Heron (Ardeola sp) - another early migrant here, to perch at this dead teak tree, when suddenly a flock of five myna perched. I though all that Common Myna or Javan Myna that I see every day. Then I noted unusual yellow colour at the side of the head. I just fire a few shot in the thick morning fog and mist with the flash off. So here are a few poor shot for my record.

Hill Myna (Gracula religiosa) at My backyard in Raub MalaysiaThe different between the two species is in the head yellow patch of Hill Myna (left) and Common Myna (right).
The feather is also different with Jet Black for Hill Myna and dark grey for Common Myna.

Ole Nest

Look like this hole/nest is already abandon by barbet. No sign of nesting activity for the past two weeks. This mynas (and wood pecker) has been pocking inside the hole.

After reading about Common /Javan Myna that nesting at tree cavity and hole, maybe this is the Myna's nest!

(time for more observation!)

Nest Update - part 2

I waited again the whole evening for her return, but nothing. Maybe her nest is already completed and no further construction needed.

Than this visitor came in. Like the woodpeckers his morning, this pair of Javan Mynas climbed in and poked their heads into the hole. They got nothing because the nest is empty.

Than late in the evening I saw this Gold-wiskered Barbet (probably male) perched high up with food in his mouth. He didn't go down into the hole. He flew off, maybe going to give that food to his girlfriend.
I don't know what that yellow food in that beak, some kind of fruit or could it be a faecal sac?. The photograph by Nelson Khor here, shows the same yellow thingy. (cropped picture below)
