Location: Backyard, Raub, Pahang

Cause of death

I found this swallow dead in a 'five-foot way' not far from Raub's 7-Eleven.

Cause of death: Unknown.

This Juvenile Scally-breasted Munia picture was posted earlier on Nov 2008.

Cause of death - lack of water and food.

Common Birds at Raub's Open Grassland

My initial plan for labour day holiday birding was at Fraser's Hill.
Last minute family commitment change my plan to just one hour morning birding at my usual watering hole.
Here are some of everyday birds;

Baya Weaver (Ploceus philippinus) - male
Paddyfield Pipit (Anthus rufulus)

Brown Shrike (Lanius cristatus) - this migrant bird was still here.
Noisy Lesser Coucal (Centropus bengalensis), sunbathing and stretching his wing.
and this common Baya weaver singing at his nest.

I found this small (11cm) Munia at open grassland beside the Raub Golf course.
Known as "Pipit Uban" in Malay meaning finch with grey hair - white head and throat.
This is my lifer. There are six species of Munia in Malaysia, and I have only seen two so far - this white headed and Scaly-breasted Munia

These  are collection of my birds in 'action'- at my backyard.
Taken with my humble Tamron 70-300mm zoom lens.
Most of it at wide open f5.6 and high ISO 400 and more, to maintain high shutter speed.
Add that with heavy crop, so the resulting pics are grainy.
My priority now is identify the birds. The next level is quality pics.
May be with those 400mm L lens above.
