There are 17 pigeon species in Malaysia and I only seen three so far;
1) Little Green Pigeon (Treron olax) - Punai Siul
2) Thick-billed Green Pigeon (Treron curvirostra) - Punai Daun
3) Pink-necked Green Pigeon (Treron vernans) - Punai Gading

BTW, "Punai" = "kote" mean male genitalia in Malay! ;-)

Burung Kambing - Black Magpie

LIFER # 2, birding at Temerloh on Sunday.
When I saw this black bird, my first reaction was - this a Crow. I clicked a few shots when it perched, but the loud call "keh-eh-eh-eh" was not like a crow.
With reference book, I managed to ID this bird:
Black Magpie (Platysmurus leucopterus), Local name Burung Kambing (literally mean Goat Bird). The whole body is black in colour with the distinct white band along the wing. The red eyes are also diagnostic.

Ciak Tempua - Baya Weaver - Birding at Temerloh

This is one of three LIFER that I found on Sunday while birding at Temerloh.
I heard a lot of story about this great architect, but never seen it until Sunday.
Dull dark brownbird foraging at the small leafless tree. Only when I viewed at camera LCD later at home, than I realized that I found a Baya Weaver.

I did not see any male species or nest in this trip. The next visit is under planning.

Sepah Puteri Pelangi ~ Crimson-breasted Flowerpecker

Lifer # 2, Crimson-breasted Flowerpecker (Prionochilus percussus).
This small beautiful flowerpecker was photographed while birding for one hour on Sunday

Local name Sepah Puteri Pelangi, small size (10cm)

There are 12 species of Flowerpecker in Malaysia, and I only managed to record four.
1. Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker (Dicaeum cruentatum)
2. Yellow-Breasted Flowerpecker (Prionochilus maculatus)
3. Yellow-vented Flowerpecker (Dicaeum chrysorrheum)
4. Crimson-breasted Flowerpecker (Prionochilus percussus)

I don't know the species name of this flower. It was found at the edge of lake from the tall wild grass, look like young paddy stalk or Pampas grass.

Kedidi Pasir ~ Common Sandpiper

Another LIFER this Sunday.
I found this solitary Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos) near the lake at TopRank Camp.

Local name: Kedidi Pasir, have a habit of moving or bobbing its tail while walking.
Common winter migrant, Small in size = 20cm

Two years old ~ Happy blogoversary!

I didn't relized that I have been blogging for 2 years until Teena in Toronto posted a comment "Happy blogoversary!" yesterday.
My first posting in this blog was on November 11, 2006, about my 'first love' with Amiga 500 Computer, 23 years ago.
This is the screen shot of my posting at the newsgroup 15 years ago, using UUCP text base command line interface, (hypertext and the www was born in 1991)

My early entry in this blog were about family travel, personal rambling, PDA and GPS.
It evolved over time and my hobby changed.
I have changed the tittle of this blog a few time , from; "My Personal & random thoughts" to "GPS, PDA and dSLR Addicts" to "Birds and Digital SLR Passion" to present "Birds and Nature Photography - by Tabib"

This two Magpie Robin pictures were taken at the same metal perch. Notice how much difference after 17 months of birds photography.
