
Rufous Woodpecker (Celeus brachyurus)
Local name: Belatok Biji Nangka
Size : 25 cm
This is my 3rd Woodpecker after the:-
(1) Common Flameback - (Dinopium javanense), and
(2) Banded Woodpecker (Picus miniaceus)
There are 25 species of Woodpeckers according to PERHILITAN (Department of Wild Life, Malaysia).

I had my first Rufous Woodpecker at my own yard about 17 years ago when I was just ready to go to school. It was a very surprising find. It was found for about 6 days and vanished never to return again. It was very vocal during its stay which betrayed its presence.
