This Juvenile Cobra (Naja Sp.), wandering at my backyard looking for food. Naja sumatrana, aka Black spitting cobra, Malayan spitting cobra. Reference: School of Biological Sciences, Bangor University here
I had a quick search; this specimen is probably "Naja sumatrana". aka Black spitting cobra, Malayan spitting cobra. It fit the description here:- "juveniles have a light throat area with one or several pairs of lateral spots and often a median spot".
Amila, I may have to buy that long rubber boot too.
Joe, I have seen this juvenile a few time. One snake smaller than this even entered my kitchen thro the gap at the back door. I may call a Fire&Rescue if encounterd with the full blown adult cobra.
when I newly moved to my present house, one morning I get down from the bed and stepped on one juvenile snake ... never knew the species but I guess from the shape of the head it was a non poisonous kind. Luckily i didn't get bitten ... I stepped right on it's head ... [no it didn't die and I had a real hard time chasing it out] :)
