Damselflies of Kampung Janda Baik, Pahang

Janda Baik stream - small river

The water appeared clear, but it had an unpleasant odor. It may be contaminated with effluent discharged directly into the river.

Vila Renai at Janda Baik
Can you recognize this villa?

We spent the night at one of the villas in Kampung Janda Baik during the Pahang Hari Hol holiday last week. I typically bring a camera along with telephoto lenses and spend several hours looking for birds and exploring nature. I didn't come across any new bird species, just the regular Spotted Dove, Zebra Dove, Brown-throated Sunbird, Magpie Robin, and Glossy Starling. A lone Falconet perched high on a dead branch, while a Crested Serpent Eagle unexpectedly appeared from the tall tree and dived toward the riverbank shrubs. I was able to capture a few average photos.

The water seemed clear, yet it emitted a distinctly unpleasant odor.. There were no fish or water birds, such as waterhens, kingfishers, or herons. However, I noticed a significant number of insects on the river rocks. Upon closer inspection, I identified them as damselflies. I have never seen this insect in my backyard.
To photograph those small and fast-flying insects was a real challenge.
